Using Builds in Plans
Overview
Builds are created and managed at the project level, then assigned to test plans to control which prepared version of the project will be used during execution.
Instead of preparing the project code during every plan run, a plan can use a previously created successful build from the related project. This helps executions start in a more controlled and efficient way.
For detailed information about builds, see the Project > Builds section.
Selecting a Build for a Plan
A build can be selected from the plan edit screen.
To assign a build to a plan:
- Click Edit on the related test plan.
- Find the Build selection field.
- Select the build you want this plan to use.
- Save the plan.
After saving, the selected build will be used when the plan is executed.
The selected Build should belong to the same branch as the scenarios included in the Plan. Since a Build is generated from a specific branch, using it with scenarios from a different branch may cause version differences or unexpected execution behavior. To ensure a consistent execution, always select a Build that matches the branch used by the Plan scenarios.
Available Builds
Only successful builds from the related project can be selected for a plan.
Builds that are still running, failed, or belong to another project cannot be used. If the build you need is not listed, go to the related project and create a new build from the Builds section.
Changing the Selected Build
The selected build can be changed from the plan edit screen when needed.
This is commonly done when:
- A new build has been created after project code changes.
- The plan should start using a newer project version.
- The plan’s scenario branch has changed.
- A different prepared version of the project should be used for future executions.
After the plan is saved, future executions will use the newly selected build.
Build Usage During Execution
When a plan execution starts, the selected build is used for that execution.
During execution, the selected build cannot be removed from the plan. Since the build remains assigned to the plan during execution, it also cannot be deleted during that time.
